18:00 Newcastle – Tarlac – 1pt @ 10/1

I’m not too sure whether Tarlac is as talented as a few of these, certainly when it comes to trying to beat them off 68. However, I do think he’s a fair price as there’s a chance he’ll step forward for his recent run at Southwell when returning from almost 200 days off the track.

That was also his debut for Katie Scott and whilst he wasn’t exactly punted off the boards, he was around the 33/1 mark overnight and went off at 14/1. I’d assume there’s something being shown at home and he shaped up reasonably well in the race, just wasn’t helped by the lack of pace.

He ended up with a sit towards the rear, couldn’t catch a pace that quickened from the front and was trying to do so from the wing of the field down the middle of the track. There’s enough in place to suggest he was limited by circumstance as much as his ability to run.

This stiffer test at 6f should play to his strengths that bit more and Jason Hart – often a positive booking for the yard – rides one of the stable’s horses for the first time this year (also on one later). It’s hard to be too confident but at any double-figured price, I’m happy to take a punt.
