Best Odds: India 1.10, Bangladesh 7.00

The much maligned Champions Trophy has made a return to fill the gap in the four-year cycle left by the absence of a World Cup and it’s nonetheless an important opportunity for India to move on from falling short in the 2023 ODI World Cup at home.

India have sent their strongest squad possible minus injured fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah and prepared soundly with a 3-0 home demolition of England during which they took 30 of a possible 30 wickets and scored at 6.49rpo or better in all three innings.

Bangladesh, meanwhile, snuck into this tournament by finishing eighth at the last World Cup.

Not only did they lose five of their six ODIs across the months of November and December 2024 (1-2 v Afghanistan and 0-3 v West Indies), they were bowled out within 39 overs by one of the two Pakistan Shaheens sides to play on the same day in a Champions Trophy practice match.

That’s why the best Indian betting sites are forecasting a one-sided affair here, and with a positive mood around the office ahead of this tournament, we have selected three players to exceed bookmaker expectations for this clash!

The Numbers That Matter

  • Bangladesh have a 3-2 H2H record in ODIs since 2022
  • Six of the last eight ODIs at Dubai ICS were won chasing
  • Mushfiqur Rahim averages 231 against Jadeja in all formats (105 in ODIs)
  • Shubman Gill scored 50+ runs in 13 of his last 24 ODIs

India’s captain is out of the blocks now!

India’s veteran captain has been under a lot of pressure in recent months following his terrible Test tour of Australia, and following his retirement from the T20I format at the end of last year’s World Cup, this Champions Trophy could be his next chance to bow out of another format as a winner.

His match-winning century against England in Cuttack helped to paper over the failures of the first and third ODIs, but for the most part he has performed well in the 50-over game since a solid 2023 ODI World Cup campaign.

Cricket betting apps are forecasting him to make 33.5 runs in this opening match, a mark that Rohit exceeded in 13 out of 16 ODI innings since beginning the World Cup with a duck against Australia.

He’s also India’s second-leading ODI run-scorer in Dubai after a 2018 Asia Cup in which he passed 50 in three out of five innings, including 83* against Bangladesh.

As he also boasts an ODI average of 57 against the quartet of Taskin, Mustafizur, Miraz and Nasum Ahmed, we’re expecting the individual matchups to also be in Rohit’s favour.

Prediction: Rohit Sharma over 33.5 runs - 1.83 @ 22Bet Sports

Backing another (much younger) veteran to overperform

Soumya Sarkar is often trapped in the revolving door of Bangladesh cricket more than any other player, illustrated by the fact he recently became the fastest Bangladeshi man to 2000 ODI runs by innings but needed ten years to get there.

In his early 30s, Soumya got an unexpected recall to the Bangladesh national team in late 2023 after missing the World Cup and now has clear air to establish himself as a premier all-rounder following the retirement of Shakib Al Hasan.

He vindicated that recall with a score of 169 in New Zealand in late 2023 and has since made a series of starts, most recently scoring 73 in a narrow away loss to West Indies just two months ago.

Soumya’s over/under mark of 17.5 runs with the Champions Trophy India v Bangladesh: Expert Predictions & Analysis (2025)best Indian bookmakers is probably based on the fact he’s likely to face the new ball, but it still seems remarkably low given his improvement in this format since 2023 as well as his recent T20 form.

We’ll be backing him to score over 17.5 runs, as he has done in six of his seven ODIs against India, four of his five in the UAE, as well as in a warm-up game for this tournament in which he scored 35 opening against Pakistan Shaheens.

Prediction: Soumya Sarkar over 17.5 runs - 1.83 @ 22Bet Sports

The Indian arsh-enal has a new weapon

Left-arm quick Arshdeep Singh is now expected to win the fight with Harshit Rana to take a lead role in the Indian pace battery in the absence of Jasprit Bumrah.

Arshdeep has won the backing of many respected cricket pundits, including experienced IPL coach Ricky Ponting, who believes Arshdeep has the new ball and the death overs skills to fill the void opened up by the absence of Bumrah.

Despite his ODI career being only nine games old, he has proven to be a consistent wicket-taker in the T20I format and backing him to take 2+ wickets in that format was one of our most profitable tips of 2024, so it’s no surprise we’re keen to see him do well here.

He has a strong rate of claiming multiple wickets in the majority of his seven ODIs played since the last World Cup as well as in three of his five career T20Is against Bangladesh, and his white ball skills should be too smart for a Bangladesh lineup that can be guilty of executing aggressive shots quite poorly.

Prediction: Arshdeep Singh to take 2+ wickets - 1.66 @ 22Bet Sports
